YOGI TAKES A VERY DIM VIEW OF 1979 BY SHARON STOTT
It's's a sign of the times when North American businessmen wave aside their usual consultants and instead peer into a crystal ball before making their corporate decisions.
Yes, the world's topsy turvy economy ha wiped out all the usual economic guidelines, leaving industrial leaders foundering -- desperate enough to resort to the prognostications of the psychics.
Once the darlings of the show business set, clairvoyants are becoming almost chi chi in the business world. But of course, not one of the men of commerce are going to admit to such goings on. and would YOU trust a business advisor who consulted a psychic before an economist?
So it is understandable that Maha Yogi A.S. Narayana ("Call me Alfred") can't divulge any of his client's names. And if you happened on Narayana in a business office, he wouldn't be the least bit out of place. Three piece suit, 50, impeccably groomed. Prussian accent -- all give the illusion of staid solidarity. Until you look into the eyes. They twinkle, especially when Narayana giggles while making predictions, tagging it with a pleased "Isn't it all too tacky?"
One supposes a clairvoyant would have to have a sense of humor, albeit black, if he could envisage the future of the world. Because, according to Narayana, it's bleak to say the least.
Claiming a ninety per cent success rate, Narayana peddles his predictions to corporations at $300 an hour and general clients at $100. If there is an overseas assignment, the Yogi expects a minimum retainer of $10,000. Terms? Certified cheque or cash.
To part with such big bucks, the businessmen must be assured of results.
Narayana's success rat IS formidable -- 73 out of 84 events predicted to the press in 1978 have come true, including the death of Pope Paul, the family name of the new Pope and the dip of the Canadian dollar to 87 cents US>
But here, for you, Sunday Sun reader, is a FREE glimpse into Narayana's 1979.
***
The Canadian dollar will fall to 84-86 cents between mid-January and mid-February.
***
The gold price in 1979 will rise $187, $217, $246, $293.
***
There will be a major crash on Wall Street with the Dow index falling to 780 points by late fall. The present bull market is just a put-on with the major companies investing massive capital in buying back their own companies' shares.
***
There will be a federal election at the end of April. The Liberals will either lose or form a coalition that will break down in four weeks.
***
President Carter will be gone by the first quarter of 1979. There will be impeachment proceedings from the Senate or the man will be assassinated.
***
Tokyo, San Francisco, Vancouver and Victoria will be hit by earthquakes measuring nine on the Richter scale.
***
There is a Cairo-Moscow as is in the making and Soviet arms should be in the Middle East by July. The Israelis will start the war with a preventive attack in September. The Israeli soldiers might actually end up fighting Soviet troops.
***
The King of Spain should come to grief this winter.
***
An inept marksman might shoot a prominent Quebec politician in the leg. This incident should influence the Quebec separation issue, with the separate referendum taking place sometime between the end of March and the beginning of May. The result will be 54 to 56 per cent in favor of separation and it will be challenged on constitutional grounds before the Supreme Court of Canada.
***

***
There might be a severe health crisis for Soviet Premier Brezhnev, especially ion October 11. There is also a power struggle going on within the Supreme Soviet.
***
There will be a Palestine Liberation Organization Black September action at the Montreal airport.
***

Casting his gaze further into the future, Narayana made the following predictions.
***
Prime Minister Trudeau will become the Secretary General of the United Nations.
***
Yes, Maggie Trudeau will marry again -- twice.
***
Jackie Kennedy won't marry again and will end up a psychiatric patient in a sanitarium built on one of her private estates.
***
Pope John Paul will be e the first Pope to die a violent death. He will be assassinate in the first or eleventh year of his rule.
***
Queen Elizabeth will live until she is into her 90s. She might even outlive Prince Charles.
Question. Narayana on the fact he predicted a federal election this spring while in Manhattan last year and he supplies a ready answer. The Yogi alleges a chief Liberal party organizer came to him last winter for a consolation. Narayana says he advised the Grit that his party would lose if an election was held in the spring and would have a short lived minority government if the nation went to the polls this fall. So in effect, Narayana maintaining he scuttled his own prediction.
With psychics sprouting up here, thee and every where, one can be certain that with all the conflicting predictions one of them is BOUND TO BE RIGHT.
